Donna J. Boyd founded Peace Frog Natural Foods during the summer of 1998 as means of offering natural foods, body care items and nutritional supplements to the residents of Pottsville, PA and the surrounding Schuylkill County area.

Donna began studying alternative remedies, ultimately earning a Degree in Naturopathy from Clayton College, when her mother was diagnosed with Stage Four Ovarian Cancer and given a bleak prognosis. With the use of alternative and traditional medicine, Donna’s mother went into remission and lived seven more years.

After witnessing the positive impact alternative therapies had on Donna’s Mother, many friends and family members began to rely on Donna’s expertise to treat their own ailments and encouraged her to open her own business. Over the years, a number of health food stores had come and gone in the area forcing most Schuylkill County residents to drive over 40 miles to health food stores in Reading or Allentown. In 1998, with a Degree, 20 years of retail experience, and her life savings, Donna decided to open a health food store in a small 500 square foot retail space in a residential neighborhood of Pottsville.

Good business sense and excellent customer service helped the business grow. Within two years, the small store was bursting at the seams and plans to re-locate to a larger space were underway. It took several years, but in late 2005, Peace Frog Natural Foods moved to its current 3500 square foot commercial location at 49 Ann Street in Pottsville.
